Riding the Horsey

This morning Mason came over to play with John David while the movers were at his house loading boxes onto the truck.  Notice at the end of this video he proudly uses his new word, "down," accompanied by a new facial expression---pursed lips.

The Zoo was a zoo!

We just got back from the zoo.  It was wild today!  Tons of people in addition to being hot and humid.  Jack got to see all kinds of animals today.  He's been to the zoo  a dozen times (thanks to our unlimited zoo pass) but it wasn't until recently that he's taken an interest in animals--which made me extra excited about taking him to the zoo today.  He got to ride in the double wagon with his friend Mason (on the left in the green shirt).

We watched the two baby elephants run around and play in the water, although I'm not sure they are in the video I took.  Jack was so cute, pointing his finger and saying, "Dat?"  I'd tell him "elephant," and he'd try to say it, but he's nowhere close...

After viewing the elephants, the boys were getting hungry, hot, and fussy, so we headed to the picnic tables and ate the lunches we'd packed.  Jack spilled water all over himself which caused a total meltdown.  He calmed down after I stripped off his wet shirt---and that's why he's topless in all of these photos.

After lunch we headed to the aquarium part of the zoo and and saw the polar bears.  They usually lay around and do nothing, but today one of them was playing with all the kids in the window.  He would swim right up to the glass and jump out of the water, splashing onto his back.  The boys loved it!  My friend & next-door neighbor Agatha (Mason's mom) was able to get video footage of it, so if she posts it on Facebook, I'll try and link it to my FB page.  In the video below, that is Mason in the green shirt, and Jack on the right.

Here's a picture of the boys about five seconds after loading them into the car.

The last photo, below, was actually taken yesterday while we were out.  Aren't they cute?  Agatha & Mason will be moving next week, which makes me really sad.  They are going back to California now that Agatha's husband Jason has finished his surgical residency.  We are going to miss them so much.  :(

num num num

This morning John David kept saying, "Num num NUMMM" with each bite of his vegetarian sausage. Of course, when I turned on the camera, he quit doing it so I had to prompt him.

Hershey

Forgot to tell a cute story about John David.  Last week I was in Hershey for an OT/PT conference.  David said that John David was left in the kitchen by himself for a few minutes and managed to open the bottom cabinet, pull out a rice crispy treat from the box, open the wrapper, and eat a good bit of it before getting caught.  Sneaky devil.

Also, David moved Dolly upstairs while the babysitter was here and John David walked around calling out, "Dolly!  Dolly!"  Then, when David got home he took Jack to the park where he scrambled to the top of the slide and started calling out her name again.  :)

Dat? Dat? Lion!!!

Jack's favorite book (of the moment) is a picture book featuring a ton of animals.  He will point to an animal and ask, "Dat?".  He makes sure to study my lips and mouth as I say the word.  He loves to say "lion," although I'm not sure anyone can understand him (other than us).  It doesn't exactly sound like "lion" but he does say it this way each time.  The lion is his favorite animal to point to.  Perhaps it's my awesome imitation of a lion's roar.  He frequently points to the goat, horse, pony, elephant, and all cat-like creatures such as cheetahs, leopards, tigers, lions, panthers, etc.  I'll tell him the word, and he'll do his best to repeat it.  There must be over 100 animals in this book but he points to the same dozen over and over.

Dancing on Father's Day

Finally!  I've caught Jack dancing on video.  This toy will either say a word or sing a song when you press a button.  As you can see, he presses a button until he hears a song, and then he dances.

why not?

Balancing a lollipop between your toes takes patience.

Why hold it between your fingers when you have two perfectly good feet?

More with Dolly

John David offering Dolly some of his popcorn.  Our little guy loves to share.  At least for right now.  I realize it might not last forever.  But, for right now, he loves offering his food to others while eating.  He takes a bite, then offers a bite.  One for me, one for you.
This is what they look like from the other side of the door (see yesterday's post).

Dolly & more

New hobby--dumpster diving.  John David finds all kinds of treasures that Mommy & Daddy throw away.  Like eggshells and rotten bananas.

I had just given Dolly a treat and John David signed that he wanted "more" too.

I said, "Give Dolly a hug," and he walked right over and hugged her.  :)

Best Friends.

i'm gonna get you!

Diaper changes have become a challenge.  He rolls over immediately and runs off.  But he's so cute running around buck naked.

Duck! Duck! Duck!

It's John David's latest word and he points out ducks wherever we go.  There are a surprising number of ducks, we never noticed them all until we had our little guy pointing them out all over the place.  They are painted on toys, in books, on TV, on signs, billboards, food labels, on clothing, etc.  When he sees one, he points his finger and shouts, "Duck!  Duck!   Duck!" until someone acknowledges that yes, that is a duck.

He also has started saying "doggy" (sounds more like "goggy" though) and "truck."  I pointed out a big fire truck last week, so now he calls any and all huge vehicles a truck.

cleaning

John David has started imitating us while cleaning.  He picked up this rag and began wiping the floor.....

He frequently grabs the broom in the kitchen and tries to sweep.....although the broom is twice his size, at least!
