entree envy

"I'll just have what you're having mom."  That's what John David would say if could!  Right now, all he can manage is "Nah Nah!"  (Translation:  "Ma Ma").  He wants to eat WHATEVER we are eating.  Enough of this baby food already.  If I'm eating an omelet, he wants a bite.  If I'm drinking coffee, he wants a drink.  Last weekend he ate the tofu out of my hot and sour soup!  If I want to feed him baby food, I have to blob some on my plate and pretend to eat it.  Only then is he interested.

In the last week he's taken an interest in everything going on in the kitchen.  He whines until I pick him up and show him what I'm cooking or preparing.  He watches intently.  If he's on the floor when I open the refrigerator door, he zooms over, stands up, and starts plucking out bottles and containers.  This photo was taken the day after Christmas.  David's little chef in training.

Ten Months

So John David is ten months old.  He's been pulling himself up to standing for a couple months now.  Just in the last week, he has started to cruise around on furniture---from one side of the couch to the other.  He got a crawl tunnel from Santa for Christmas.  It took a little encouragement at first but he's now zooming from one end to the other.  He'll probably be walking in the next couple of months.  I better have my running shoes ready.  :)

Christmas was very Merry indeed!  We enjoyed having dinner with our neighbors on Christmas Day.  :)  They have a little boy who is one year older than our son.  That morning while opening presents, John David enjoyed ripping away the wrapping paper and then stuffing it in his mouth (as fast as he could!) before getting it taken away.  He was more interested in eating wrapping paper, tissue paper, and boxes than in playing with all his new toys.  Mommy is very thankful to have new toys to play with though!  And new books to read too!

John David loves being read to.  His attention span is roughly two board books.  He turns the pages of the book for me!  He knows which way to turn the page all by himself.

His latest "trick" is standing up on the side of the bathtub and "falling" backwards, making a big splash.  He smiles from ear to ear and giggles.  Even after dozens of times!

John David cut his first tooth on December 18th!  I took him next door to decorate sugar cookies at our neighbors and a friend commented, "Boy he's really drooling a lot, is he teething?"  I ran my finger over his bottom gum line and sure enough, there it was!

David is enjoying school.  Over the Christmas "break" he had clinicals five days a week.  He has truly loved his placement at UPMC Shadyside these last few months.  It's busy and he's seen a lot.  In February he changes to a community type hospital in Jefferson, about ten miles away....which doesn't sound far until you think of the winter weather in Pittsburgh during February and March.
