playing with Dolly

This ribbon is John David's favorite toy (at the moment).  He toddles around with it trailing behind him.  I think he is pretending it's a leash and that he's walking the dog.

Watermelon

John David loves watermelon.  He ate six slices the other night.  Here he is smackin' his lips.

Idlewild

Yesterday we took John David to Idlewild, an amusement park that featuring lots of rides for small children.  This place is about an hour outside of Pittsburgh.  "Storybook Forest" is a section of the park inspired by various fairy tales.  Here is the house from Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Here is John David sitting inside the house with a bowl of porridge.

And here is The Big Bad Wolf, lying inside Granny's bed.

Here is Daddy & John David on the ONE ride we got to go on before we realized John David wasn't feeling well.

His body felt hot so we took him to the water park corner of the park, hoping that would cool him off and perk him up.  But this was his reaction:

So we packed up and went home.  Oh well.  Next year maybe?

basketball practice

Daddy practiced shooting hoops today with his friends & professors from school.  They are having a tournament in mid-June.  John David sat on the bleachers and watched.  The heat made him a bit cranky but he enjoyed watching his Daddy run around getting sweaty.   We had never been to this park before and he got to enjoy a new swing, which sat up higher than what he's used to.

Yay Daddy!

Whew, it's humid (for Pennsylvania).

Chuck E. Cheese

We took John David to Chuck E. Cheese last night.  He had fun playing on the little toddler rides & watching us play skee ball.  John David got so tickled when Chuck came over imitated whatever John David was doing!  He was laughing and squealing for more.  Here Chuck is imitating him as he pats the floor with two hands.  Chuck also stomped the floor and clapping like John David, who was laughing so hard he could barely catch his breath.

It figures, doesn't it?

Looks like a beautiful day, huh?

Whoo weee!  It was 58 degrees and WINDY.

We wearing capris & light jackets, thinking that would be enough.....
Wrong.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were down 4-1 in the seventh inning and we were cold & underdressed.

John David, however, was nice & cozy on Daddy's back.

So what happens when you leave a game early?

You get home, turn on ESPN, and learn that your team came from behind, scoring ten runs right after you left.

Children's Theatre

Today we took John David to see his very first live stage production.

Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny are bedtime classics that came to life on stage with music and puppetry.

Luckily, during the introduction, the announcer said, "Sit back and relax.  This is a non-shushing production."  So I didn't feel too bad when our little cutie pie gleefully shouted, "Carrot!" [quite clearly & accompanied with a finger-point] when one of the bunnies brought a bright orange carrot onstage.

Photography was only allowed after the show, during a question & answer session, so that's when I snapped this picture.

busy bee

John David is wayyy too busy for pictures!  His backside was the only thing I could manage to get on film at the park yesterday.

here comes Trouble!

John David can completely climb up the stairs all by himself.

Mother's Day

Oops, I forgot to report a very special moment in a mommy's life---the first time you hear "I love you."

A few days ago, I was lying down and John David toddled up to me, put his little arms around my head and said, "I yuhhh yoooooo."  (I love you).  My heart swelled up a bit & my eyes got all watery---as they do now, again, as I type this.

He can also say, "day coo."  Translation:  thank you.

Happy Mother's Day to John David's two Great Grandmothers, Grandma, and Nana.  John David says, "I yuh you."

Latest Stats & New Words

Forgot to update everyone on John David's latest stats.  He went to the pediatrician a week ago to get his shots updated.  He was 30" tall & 24 lbs 11 oz----almost exactly the same as his visit back in January.  Crawling up the stairs is his new thing.

In the last week, he has started saying a few new words:

1.  Cracker:  "ca-ca" (like cat-cat without the "t")
2.  Binky:  "ginky"
3.  Jack:  he can say his nickname quite clearly, just like it sounds, "Jack."
4.  Cheese:  "tees"

Here he is asking me to open his "crackers"---actually they are biter biscuits.
