Trip to NYC

We drove to NYC last weekend for a little family getaway.  This time we stayed in Jersey City, NJ which is right across the water from Manhattan.  David took this picture as we were walking to the subway station.

The night we drove in we saw a Chuck E. Cheese and thought John David needed to burn some energy after sitting in the car for 8 hours.

This tractor ride was his favorite.

sunglasses from Aunt Sharon

John David's great aunt Sharon gave him a pair of sunglasses from the Harley Davidson dealership when we were in Texas last month.  He loves to put them on and walk around the house with them on.  The lenses are dark and probably smudged up with fingerprints---I doubt he can see very well with them on.  As you can see, he wears them at the bottom of his nose so he doesn't have to look through them.  And sometimes he puts them on upside down.

Easter Sunday

Happy Easter!  Today our neighbors threw a big Easter bash in our collective backyard.  I caught John David munching on someone's pork rib bone that he must have found in the grass or dug out of the trash can.

Here he is working on a popsicle.  You can see Easter eggs behind him in the grass.  Some of them had Little People hidden inside!  John David missed the Easter egg hunt because he was taking a nap.  When he woke up he enjoyed finding plastic egg halves in the grass and putting them in his mouth.

Here he is wearing a friend's sunglasses.  He very politely asked her, "Glasses?"  [Sounds like "gasses?"]  She handed them right over.  :)

3rd floor

Splash ! ! ! !

Today we went up to the 3rd floor of the Children's Museum for the very first time.  My friends told me there was huge interactive water exhibit and to bring a change of clothes for John David to wear afterwards.  Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me to bring a change of shoes.

There he is in the above photos splashing his hands in the water.  He also loved sticking his face in it.

Playing with a boat.

This part fascinated him for a few minutes.  When he stacked a second green ring on top the one seen here, the water would flow down instead of spraying upwards.  He would stack it, then unstack it.  Stack it, unstack it.

And here you can see the clear plastic tubing kids can use to construct their own pipes.  The water flows through it while they are building.  John David grabbed a tube taller than himself, hauled it over to the splash pool, and happily tossed it in.

Mr. McCool

John David sporting his new 99 cent sunglasses a few hours before Dolly destroyed them.  He loved them!  This is the first pair that he actually left on his face, perhaps because he can see since the lenses aren't your traditional black.

Hopefully Target will have some of these cheapies left next time I'm there.

Elmo's best friend

Elmo

John David got a new toy yesterday---Elmo Live!  He just smiles from ear to ear when you turn it on.

showin' off signs

John David is taking a bath while getting quizzed on what signs he can say.

Fridge DJ

John David loves toys that play music.  Someone gave him a "Fridge DJ" which is a little radio looking toy with a magnet on the back.  It hangs on the fridge and plays 15-20 different nursery rhymes such as, The Eyes of Texas are Upon You.  Known to most as I've Been Working on the Railroad.  (Hook 'Em Horns).

Anyway, I love these toys because they keep him busy while I'm cooking.  (No smart comments from the peanut gallery).  He likes to "dance" to the music although in this video he only bounces occasionally.  He gets camera shy sometimes.  I'm usually lucky to get any video because when he sees me with the camera he usually charges straight toward me to investigate my little piece of equipment & loses interest in whatever cute thing I caught him doing.

Apologies for the poor sound quality.  The dishwasher was running and I didn't turn it off because I was afraid he'd lose interest in the toy & want to steal my camera.

messy face

If you look closely you can see John's two top teeth that emerged last week.  He pulled a bottle of Hoisin sauce out of the refrigerator, unscrewed the lid, and went to town.  The flavor is an intense soy type sauce with garlic and chili.  Little foodie like his daddy.

Plumber's Crack & Popsicles

Yesterday we had a temporary reprieve from all these April Showers.  The sun came out for a few hours so John David & Mason got to play at the park and ate popsicles when we got home.
